Looking back at 2019 at Anne Corder Recruitment

2019 has been a year filled with many momentous occasions; not only for Anne Corder Recruitment, but also the Peterborough business community.

There has been much to celebrate, and while Peterborough was hit with the sad news of the closure of Thomas Cook, it was inspiring to see how citizens and businesses pulled together to lift-up and help those who had been affected.

In this blog, we round-up some the memorable events that have taken place over the last 12 months for Anne Corder Recruitment.

The 22nd ACR and Hegarty Employment Law Seminar attracted over 200 attendees

Our annual seminar, organised in conjunction with Peterborough specialists in employment law Hegarty Solicitors, was centred around workplace absence.

Workplace absences cost UK businesses £18billion each year, however employers are required to consider their stance carefully when it comes to staff there are regularly absent.

More than 200 HR professionals and business owners attended the event and were provided with expert legal advice from Martin Bloom and Tim Thompson. Discussing aspects such as protecting employer brand and reputation, improving communication and processes and being aware of potential unfair dismissal claims, the free event proved invaluable to those who attended.

Record funds were raised for Peterborough Breast Care Unit at the annual Ladies Lunch

We were delighted to sponsor the annual Ladies Lunch, an event that raises funds for an extremely deserving local cause.

Organised by former breast cancer patient Carol Collier, the Ladies Lunch is a way of Carol expressing gratitude to those who were involved in her care journey and is a real highlight in the ACR calendar.

On Friday 11th of October, the Anne Corder team headed to the 2019 lunch to enjoy great food, company and entertainment in the form of a Q&A from Dr Hillary Jones!

The team were over-joyed to learn that this year, the amount raised totalled more than £17,000. The proceeds will be used to provide specialist equipment for the Breast Care Unit at Peterborough City Hospital, that is unavailable within current NHS budgets.

We arranged 30 Lunch and Learn sessions

Our Lunch and Learns have been an enormous success since we began running them in 2013.

Arranged to provide employers, line managers and HR professionals with knowledge and insight into a variety of topics, these sessions always include an expert guest speaker from industries such as employment law, HR and career coaching. This year we were delighted to welcome Clare Eager from PeopleHR, Martin Bloom from Hegarty Solicitors and Melanie Coeshott from Blue Diamond.

Our Lunch and Learn calendar is already brimming for the first half of 2020, you can find out more about the events here.

Thomas Cook CV and interview masterclass offered support to those affected by the collapse

The collapse of Thomas Cook had an enormous impact on the local community, with hundreds of people finding themselves searching for a new role. However, it did highlight the strength and support that individuals in Peterborough are ready to offer each other.

There were many offers of help from local businesses, from free taxi rides to interviews to complimentary tickets to football matches. The team felt that as a long-established local recruitment business, we had much to offer former Thomas Cook employees in finding their next role.

Our CV and interview masterclasses were exclusively for those who had previously been employed at the travel firm. Offering tips and guidance along with one-to-one advice, the events provided guidance for those who were job hunting.

The masterclasses were a collaborative effort, and we could not have executed them without the support of other HR professionals, including those from:

  • The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs
  • British Telecom
  • PeopleHR
  • Associated British Foods
  • Royal Haskoning

The ACR team took part in a wellbeing challenge to support the DEC Cyclone Idai Appeal

While most of us are aware that we should be drinking eight glasses, or two litres of water every day, many of hadn’t thought of doing so to support a charitable cause.

Earlier this year, the ACR team decided to rise up to a wellbeing challenge to see how much water they could collectively consume. The end result was 1000+ glasses of water drank over the month of April, raising funds to support the DEC Cyclone Idai Appeal, a joint fundraising appeal providing support and care for those that suffered in the aftermath of Cyclone Idai.

More than £18million was raised within five days of the appeal launch, and funds helped in the following ways:

  • £100 can help build a toilet and washing facilities for families who have lost their home
  • £50 can provide a family with food for one month
  • £30 can provide blankets to keep two families warm

We celebrated 24 years of international accreditation

Anne Corder Recruitment obtained the ISO 9001 accreditation for the 24th consecutive year, demonstrating our commitment to maintaining a high standard of quality.

ISO inspectors spent a full day at the ACR office in Lynchwood, Peterborough, reviewing internal methods and systems, interviewing employees, evaluating records and sampling methodologies. The final evaluation and report mentioned the dedication of ACR staff to upholding transparent processes, high customer satisfaction and the influence that our calm and relaxed office environment will have on our candidates’ nerves.

We have always strived to maintain the highest business standards, and we are once again, delighted to have received such high praise.

We hope that 2019 has been as successful and rewarding for you as it has been for the team at Anne Corder Recruitment. If you are looking to recruit new employees or begin your job search in 2020 and would like our assistance, please contact a member of the team to discuss how we can help you.
