Barbara Lambourne: Temping has given me freedom and flexibility
Barbara turned to ACR in 2010 after being made unexpectedly redundant after a successful career as a senior PA for leading local companies like Thomas Cook and BGL.
After a chat about her hopes, plans and objectives, ACR assessed her skills and agreed that temporary work could be the perfect solution. Her experience and highly developed skillset meant she was suitable for lots of executive administration roles.
Temporary work offered Barbara the flexibility she sought – enabling her to pick and choose the assignments that suited her new lifestyle. She was closely supported by ACR recruitment partner Nel Woolcott.
“I was very impressed with how Nel dealt with me -– not just within the professional environment, but on a personal level as well. She was always approachable and quick to understand exactly what I was looking for based on my work history and personal circumstances.”
Nel successfully placed Barbara in various roles and consistently received good feedback from clients. Praised for her thoroughness, attention to detail and calm approach when under pressure, Barbara became an exemplary and sought-after candidate.
In 2012, Barbara decided it was time for a new direction. With a potential move abroad on the horizon, Barbara felt that a part-time role would be more practical as she started to plan for some big changes in her life. So when an assignment became available at United Learning for an HR administrator, Barbara had no hesitation in taking the placement.
“While the essential skills needed are very similar, the day-to-day duties of an HR administrator differ to those of a PA, to which Barbara was accustomed,” said Nel. “But the fact that this new role worked in harmony with her future plans was a big plus and I knew she would relish the challenge.”
The flexible nature of temporary placements allows candidates like Barbara to pick and choose when they work and take breaks between assignments as and when necessary. It also lets them experience a number of different working environments in order to develop skills and broaden horizons.
